What it is. Pterygium care assesses a fleshy growth that extends from the tissue over the white of the eye towards the cornea. It may cause irritation, redness, or changes in vision. Your doctor checks its size and effect on the eye, then discusses whether observation, symptom relief, or surgical removal is appropriate.
How it works. A slit-lamp microscope provides a magnified view of the growth and the eye surface, while vision testing helps assess its effect. Lubricating drops may ease irritation but do not remove the growth. When surgery is appropriate, the surgeon removes it and may use a small tissue graft to reduce the chance of recurrence.
How to prepare. Bring your glasses, current drops, and any previous eye records, and note whether the growth or your vision has changed. Tell the doctor about medicines, allergies, and earlier eye surgery. If an operation is planned, ask for the specific preparation and recovery instructions, including arrangements for transport and follow-up.
