About your care.
What it is. An eye examination checks both how well you see and the health of your eyes. It brings together your symptoms, medical history, and examination findings to help explain a change in vision or guide routine care. It can also identify a need for glasses, further tests, or a specialist assessment.
How it works. Your doctor may use a vision chart, trial lenses, a slit-lamp microscope, and an eye-pressure measurement to assess different parts of your vision and eye health. Dilating drops may be recommended to examine the retina and optic nerve. Additional imaging is selected when it can help answer a particular clinical question.
How to prepare. Bring your current glasses, eye medicines or a medicine list, previous eye records, and any referral. Make a note of your main concerns and when they began. Ask whether dilation is planned; if so, bring sunglasses and arrange a ride home because the drops may temporarily blur your vision.

Before you book
A few questions you may have.
Is this the same as a glasses test?
Refraction measures your glasses prescription. An ophthalmology consultation also assesses eye health and whether another problem may be affecting your vision.
Will my eyes need to be dilated?
Your doctor will decide. If dilation is needed, your vision can be temporarily blurred and more sensitive to light. Ask about arranging a ride home.
Can I walk in?
Walk-ins are accepted, subject to the doctor’s schedule. Appointments are prioritized, and post-operative patients may be seen first.
How long should I allow?
The time depends on the examination, any tests, and the clinic queue. Ask your branch before travelling, especially if someone is accompanying you.
