BEYOND THE TOOL

Small habits for clearer lenses.

Glasses go through a lot in a normal day: fingerprints, dust, bags, desks, and hurried cleaning. A simple care routine can make it easier to look after the pair you rely on.

2 MIN READ · GENERAL INFORMATION

Clean gently, with the right materials

Follow the care instructions for your particular lenses and coatings. Use an appropriate lens cleaner and a clean microfiber cloth. A shirt or paper tissue can carry small particles that scratch the surface. Avoid trying to rub stubborn dirt away with more pressure; check the recommended cleaning method instead. 1

Think of cleaning as a small routine rather than a last-minute fix. Keep the recommended supplies somewhere easy to reach, so you are less tempted to use whatever happens to be nearby. The quiz is a chance to spot those everyday shortcuts.

Protect them between wears

A hard case helps protect glasses when you put them away. If you set them on a surface, keep the lenses facing up. Avoid leaving them in extreme heat, such as on a car dashboard, because heat can damage frames or lens coatings. Scratches cannot simply be wiped away; ask an optical professional about damaged lenses. 1

Separate lens care from eye care

Glasses bend light to help it focus on the retina at the back of the eye. They improve vision while you wear them; wearing glasses does not make your eyes weaker. Clean lenses are useful, but they do not tell you whether a prescription still suits you or whether your eyes are healthy. Keep having eye examinations as often as your eye doctor recommends. 2

ONE SMALL NEXT STEP

Give your glasses a regular home: a protective case, with a clean lens cloth nearby.
